Have you been having back pain, headaches, knee pain, neck pain or other pain in your body without relief for years? Have you tried PT, chiropractic care, massage therapy, pain meds, balms and creams without lasting success? Pain is complicated. The reasons why someone feels pain go beyond what has happened to their body. There is a whole, complex network involved that determines what we feel regarding pain, and sometimes treating the body tissues themselves doesn't get to the root of the problem.
Dr. Sarah has completed extensive training in Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) and its use in treating persistent, chronic pain. She has taken coursework through the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute for Explain Pain, as well as Therapeutic Pain Science with Adriaan Louw. She understands how complex and unique pain is to each individual, and she will take the time to get to know you and your body and determine what is necessary to bring you relief.
Utilizing the latest neuroscience research regarding pain, Dr. Sarah will teach you what pain is, what it isn't, and what that means for your function. There is still a lot of misinformation out there, even in the medical community, about pain. We are always learning, and some of the newest research doesn't make it into the clinic right away. Pain is always real, and never "in your head," but we have learned more about the brain's role in producing pain. Dr. Sarah will help you work with your body by incorporating your whole person - body, mind, and spirit - into your pain treatment program. There are a lot of reasons why pain may stick around longer than the tissue healing time, and with each patient the reason is different. We are all unique and have a unique personality, culture, and set of circumstances that makes us feel what we feel. Dr. Sarah loves solving the "mystery of you" to uncover your reasons for continued pain and to problem solve with you to come up with solutions.
This is not a “magic pill,” or “pain-free guaranteed!” type of treatment, but a solidly researched, evidenced-based approach to educate and collaborate with you to get to a root understanding of your specific pain. With the appropriate knowledge about pain, and the right treatment to get to the root of the problem, relief is possible. In addition to manual therapy - including Strain Counterstrain and IASTM with The Edge tool - and the appropriate therapeutic exercise, you will receive guided meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness education and practice, and sleep hygiene. Dr. Sarah encourages journaling, and offers specific prompts to write about throughout the treatment sessions. Dr. Sarah loves helping people who are struggling with chronic pain to safely increase their activity level and live a full life once again!
